Virgin Coconut Oil

I was sitting down, waiting for my mee goreng at a crowded mamak restaurant. With me was a small bottle of 20ml Virgin Coconut Oil. An elderly guy sit next to me since there is not many seat left. We exchanged smiles. He saw me reading the label from the bottle I had in my hand.

'Do you know how to make that? It's so easy..', he opened the conversation.

'Not really, pakcik', I said. Then he explained it to me, and I took a mental notes on it.

The next day, I bought 1 kilo of fresh coconut milk. Upon reached home, I just put it on one corner for 4 hours. The cream of the coconut milk started to get saperated from it's water. I took only the cream, put it inside a lid-container, and freezed it.

Next day, I took out the iced coconut milk cream, and let it melt at a warm place but not under a direct sunlight. I put it next to my electric pot. The guy said, a normal room tempreture will suffice, but that would take longer.

Six hours later, what left in the container was 3 layers. More water at the bottom, brownish coconut cream (the scum) at the top, and a thick layer of virgin coconut oil in the middle.

I took another container, and I used coffee filter to filter out the scum. Carefully, I scooped out the scum, and pour the oil into the coffee filter, ensuring not to scoop the water underneath.

Tadaaa.... I had myself about 250ml of Virgin Coconut Oil.

The quantity of the oil is very much depends on the coconut and the coconut milk. Some trader add water to the coconut milk they sold, you you'll end up with much less oil.

What I used it for? I packed in small bottles and give them out to friends and relatives. It's a multipurposed oil for external use - rashes, massage, sun burn, scar marks, or any skin problem.

Anyone used Virgin Coconut Oil for anything else?
